Quartermile: A designer’s perspective

Quartermile has unveiled its latest show apartment at City Meadows, giving potential buyers a glimpse of the luxurious lifestyle on offer at the landmark Edinburgh development.

The two-bedroom garden apartment boasts a stunning south-facing terrace onto Edinburgh’s Meadows with floor-to-ceiling glass offering inspiring views. In this blog post, Sarah Ramsay from Tangram explains the thinking behind the interior design of the apartment.

A designer’s perspective
“The location of this apartment on the ground floor has such a connection with the outdoors, so we chose lots of natural materials such as oak, wools, paper and cotton. We have drawn on current trends of natural finishes and combined with a pared back, quiet colour scheme to create a simple and timeless interior.

“The property features a large open plan designer kitchen and living area leading to the beautiful outdoor terrace. In terms of furniture for this room, we chose Grand Prix dining chairs in natural oak and lacquered white designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957 for Fritz Hansen.

“The sofa is Prime Time and from Walter Knoll, a German manufacturer that offers some of the most comfortable upholstery in the world. Continuous seat cushions and a sled base create the appearance that it is floating effortlessly. The rug is from the Finnish company Woodnotes and is made from a cotton warp and paper yarn weft – very natural and hard wearing.

“We included a high-backed armchair to create a comfortable cosy corner - the Ro from Fritz Hansen designed by Jaime Hayon. The coffee table and sideboard are from Spanish manufacturer Treku, using sawn oak, which again emphasises the natural quality of the timber.

“The focus of the master bedroom is the bed. The Papilio designed by Naoto Fukasawa for B&B Italia has a fully upholstered base and high curved headboard creating almost an island of relaxation. This is combined with crisp white side tables, a fully upholstered side chair and some high storage which is manufactured in matt glass – a luxurious finish and very tactile.

“Bedroom two has a calm and relaxed feel to it with a Bel Bed from Treku, again finished in sawn oak with upholstered headboard in a taupe wool fabric. Low bedside cabinets in natural oak and bedside lights with ‘pleated’ glass diffusers, complete the scheme.”
