Get the look: National Picnic Week

There’s nothing quite like having a picnic with friends at The Meadows, or another one of Edinburgh’s stunning parks on a sunny summer afternoon.

This week marks National Picnic Week, so while we keep our fingers crossed for more warm weather, why not get yourself prepared by stocking up on these top ten statement picnic accessories.

1. Tropicana tiffin box, John Lewis - £20

Easy to carry and gorgeous to look at, these stackable containers are reminiscent of Japanese bento boxes. Three of them have deep compartments and one has a split section, which is perfect for carrying dips and condiments.

2. Maui blue deck chair, Habitat - £60

If the warm weather continues, lather up in sun cream and lounge in this eye-catching deck chair. Glass of Pimms in hand? Check.

3. Wooden croquet set, Marks and Spencer - £45

The Meadows is home to the National Croquet Centre, so why not get into the spirit of the historic sport by purchasing your own wooden croquet set and having a match with friends.

4. Picnic backpack, Cath Kidston - £40

There’s no need to lug a cumbersome wicker basket to your picnic - this backpack contains everything you need for two people. We love the quirky safari print too.

5. Giant lime green ‘piggy bag’, Made.com

These beanbags are genius! You can mould them to any shape you want and because they’re water resistant, you can use them outside, making them perfect for slouching at The Meadows.

6. Orla Kiely flask, John Lewis - £20

Kitsch Orla Kiely prints are hugely on-trend at the moment, her designs harking back to the 1960s and 1970s. This designer drinks flask is sure you give your picnic a retro edge, and is suitable for both hot and cold drinks.

7. Bam neon orange bamboo salad servers, Habitat - £12

Handmade from rolled bamboo, these stylish neon salad servers have a Scandi/Asian fusion look.

8. Green check blanket, Next - £25

A picnic on The Meadows would not be complete without a rug to sit on. Make a statement with this soft cheerful, blanket.

9. Anorak Kissing Rabbits Plate, John Lewis - £4.50

These rather cute rabbit plates are made of melamine, so they’re hardwearing and perfect for outdoor use.

10. Wine carrier, Marks and Spencer - £19.50

Keep your picnic cool, in more ways than one, with this wicker wine carrier. It has an adjustable strap, making it perfect for drinks on the go in the sunshine.

Watch this space, because later this week we’ll profile our top choices for food and drink to accompany your summer picnic.
