Barbecue on the terrace

Now that summer has arrived it’s likely we’ll all be invited to at least one barbecue this season. Hopefully the rain will stay away so we can enjoy some tasty chargrilled food with family and friends.

Last year was the year of the barbecue; thanks to a particularly warm summer, barbecue fever hit the nation and a bulging barbecue restaurant scene spread across the UK. This was most prevalent in London, where a surge of buzzing barbecue joints opened.

This trend was also noted in last year’s Michelin guide which predicted that barbecue-style food would continue to grow in popularity as part of a wider food trend.

For those living in an apartments with a terrace, such as those found at Quartermile, barbecuing on a hot sunny day is the perfect way to entertain in the summer. However, there are many restaurants in Edinburgh that are also championing chargrilled cuisine.

One Square has just launched a delicious new barbecue offering on its Castle-view Terrace - a hidden gem with its views of Edinburgh Castle. Using its quirky Big Green Egg, a controllable ceramic barbecue that is fuelled by natural charcoal made from oak and hickory, the new menu offers a delicious choice, whatever your food preferences.

It features classic bites such as honey mustard chicken wings and gin-marinated pork baby back ribs as well as more substantial grill dishes such as Scotch beef brisket spiced with homemade One Square Gin botanical rub. There are also plenty of vegetarian options.

These dishes are served with a new range of cocktails that have been created to celebrate the recently launched hand-crafted One Square Gin, which is distilled just over one mile away at Summerhall Distillery.

The Terrace at One Square is open throughout the summer months and barbeques are available every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm, weather permitting. The Terrace is also available to book exclusively for social gatherings and special events.
