The WhatHouse? Awards is considered to be one of the most important event in the housebuilding calendar, with 1,600 senior figures from the news homes industry attending. The awards ceremony, now in its 36th year, dishes out the largest and most coveted accolades in British Housebuilding.
So it was an honour for Quartermile to win the silver award in the Best Mixed-Use Development category, sponsored by TCL Group.
The achievement is a reflection of the hard work and inspired vision Quartermile puts into its residential and commercial builds. With an extensive expertise in large, mixed-use and regeneration schemes, the team at Quartermile have been able to create a stunning array of properties that bring people closer together and place them firmly in the heart of the Scottish capital.
In praising Quartermile, the judges highlighted the “extremely high standard” of design and finish at the development, stating:
“Particularly striking is the mix of original and Victorian hospital buildings and excellent new buildings finished in glass and steel and designed by Foster & Partners. A good mix of retail leisure and office space and the addition of footfall from the adjoining university creates a particularly vibrant feel to the development.”
Other winners at the event included Berkeley Group and St James, and the event attracted big names both within and outside the industry, including famous comedian Jack Whitehall and 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio.
Rupert Bates, editorial director of Whathouse.com and leading trade magazine Show House, expressed his excitement at the awards ceremony. He said:
“The Awards highlight what the best housebuilders, large and small, and their supply chains, can deliver. There are many skills in abundance in the outstanding new homes showcased today. The industry has many challenges ahead, but for now let us celebrate the best new homes in Britain. We would like to thank all the housebuilders, suppliers and other industry colleagues who have once again supported this great event, with special thanks to the Awards sponsors and judges.”
Having won at the WhatHouse? Awards in both 2014 and 2016, it was fantastic for Quartermile to again receive recognition for what has grown into one of Edinburgh’s most desirable districts to live and work.
