Artisan market comes to Quartermile

Artisan market comes to Quartermile

Designers, artists and artisan food producers alike are all set to help make Quartermile a top shopping and foodie destination from this summer onwards.

A market is being held at Lister Square on the first Friday of every month, starting from August 1, 2014. Organisers expect it to become a permanent fixture for Edinburgh’s vibrant market scene.

Laura Battles of Me to You Markets, who was also behind Quartermile’s popular Christmas market, said: “This is a beautiful location with a ready-made customer base, and I am sure that the market will be a huge success. We have a fantastic mix of stallholders which we know will continue to grow as the market becomes more established.”

The market will offer something for everyone. Shoppers can expect to see soft furnishings, candles, jewellery, cards, children’s gifts and toys alongside cakes, jams and chutneys, freshly brewed coffee and delicious crepes.

Here are just some of stallholders that are showcasing their wares on August 1, 2014:

Ellen Catherine Jewellery: This is a small independent jewellery business based in Edinburgh. Ellen and Catherine make silver and gold jewellery using enamels and gemstones. They recommend that shoppers take a look at their ‘Time for Tea’ collection, which will be on show at Lister Square.

On The Roll: This claims to have been the first mobile barbecue stall to enter Edinburgh’s growing street food scene. Run by two German friends, On The Roll offers traditional Bratwurst, a smoked Krakauer sausage and the famous Currywurst.

Handmade by Dot: Dorothy Rosie got into making jewellery after taking part in a couple of classes at a local bead shop. Today, she makes unique fashionable pieces at affordable prices. She’s recently been focusing on incorporating a Scottish theme into her jewellery, some of which will make its debut at the Quartermile market.

Marsarnen: Inge Masaren is a herbalist who sells handmade products, such as ointments to ease aches and pains, cleansing creams, face masks and massage oils to soothe the soul! She’s developed a special summer line that includes pre and after sun body oil as well as an insect repellent.

Passion Earth: Pavithra Sarma owns Passion Earth, which designs and sources textile-based recycled and upcycled products. Their handmade multi-functional phone cases, camera cases, party bags and cushion covers are all made in Edinburgh.

Angry Duck: Karen Anna and her partner sell Angry Duck merchandise, including screen printed t-shirts, tea towels, mugs and phone covers. They recently canoed from Glasgow to Edinburgh to promote their cartoon character! You can read about it on their blog.

Hudson’s Handmade Artisan Foods: Jill Hudson produces a delicious range of produce at her home in Linlithgow using her years of culinary experience as a chef. She sells everything from marinated jarred olives, flavour-infused chilli and garlic oil, chilli crumb and seasonal chutneys. They’re all beautifully presented incorporating a tasteful Scottish identity.

Harry’s treats: Harry’s treats are handmade, healthy treats especially for dogs that are intolerant to the food colourings and preservatives used in many branded dog treats. Harry’s treats contain no artificial colourings or preservatives, and are made with only high quality, human-grade ingredients.
