EdinburghEdinburghQuartermile stands on the site of what used to be the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. It’s a place that many of this city’s inhabitants hold in real affection, as well as being a site of true historical significance. Many, many people living in Edinburgh today were born at the former hospital’s Simpson Memorial Maternity Hospital. And some of the inventions and medical developments that have shaped modern medicine happened right here. That’s why such care has been taken to preserve much of the character and heritage of the site with skilful and considered conversion of many of the fabulous A-listed Victorian buildings. Quartermile will soon become a vibrant new quarter, breathing new life into a recently unused area. But to look forward, we always need to understand the past. This is Quartermile’s proud history… |
