Grand opening for Quartermile |

Scotland’s most eagerly awaited regeneration project opened its doors to the public for the first time this week. Property expert Kevin McCloud, presenter of Channel Four’s Grand Designs, joined Edinburgh’s Lord Provost, the Rt Hon. Lesley Hinds and members of Gladedale Capital at an exclusive preview of the city’s newest quarter. Lesley Hinds and members of Gladedale Capital at an exclusive preview of the city’s newest quarter. Potential buyers will be able to get their first glimpse of the luxury apartments and penthouses when the Quartermile marketing suite opens to the public on Friday 15 September. Kevin McCloud said: “Quartermile strikes the right relationship between the conservation and repair of an existing place – the infirmary – with the revitalisation of the spaces around it and the injection of new architectural blood. Little is demolished. What’s good is lovingly repaired, cherished and reset in what effectively will be a new green park planted with 300 oaks. The character of the place further resonates with the rhythmic placing of the new buildings, the making of open public spaces and the provision of all the pleasant paraphernalia of the everyday: shops, cafes, businesses and a little hotel.” The first phase of new build apartments, designed by world renowned architects Foster and Partners, will go on sale from Friday. Over 50% of the initial release properties have already been snapped up through Quartermile’s option to buy scheme. Kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom areas are on show in the sophisticated marketing suite, allowing potential buyers to get a feel for their new home. Developed by Gladedale Capital and the Bank of Scotland, the first one, two, three and four bedroom apartments will be ready for occupation summer 2007.
