Quartermile Showcases in Beijing

China got its first glimpse of the Scottish property market this week when the Gladedale Group took Quartermile to Beijing. China got its first glimpse of the Scottish property market this week when the Gladedale Group took Quartermile to Beijing. The housebuilders teamed up with Chinese developers Vanland and international property consultants Colliers CRE, to showcase Quartermile and give Chinese investors a taste of Edinburgh’s biggest urban regeneration project.

This is the first time a British property developer has visited China with the aim of attracting native Chinese investors rather than ex-pats. Traditionally, wealthy Chinese investors have bought second homes or buy to let properties in Singapore or Canada but this looks set to change thanks to Quartermile.

The visit presents homebuyers looking to capitalise on the significant capital growth experienced in the UK property market over the past ten years with an excellent investment opportunity.  Earlier this year the Gladedale Group reported record breaking sales and profit figures for the sixth successive year with an increased turnover of 39% from £348.3 million to £483.3 million.

Situated just quarter of a mile from Edinburgh Castle, Quartermile will offer over 900 luxury apartments, both conversion and new build designed by Foster and Partners, 350,000 sq ft grade A office space, 85,000 sq ft retail and leisure including a 65 bedroom boutique hotel. The £400 million regeneration project will be particularly attractive to Chinese investors keen to buy property for buy to let or personal use near Edinburgh University and within easy reach of top golf courses.

Aisling Dunphy, Sales and Marketing Director Gladedale Capital, said: “We are honoured to have been invited to Beijing by Vanland and are delighted to be given the opportunity to showcase some of the finest properties from our portfolio to Chinese investors.

“Our visit is a significant event for the UK property industry as this is the first time that a major property developer has exhibited such prestigious large-scale developments in China. Whether buyers are looking to invest in the UK buy-to-let market or to secure an additional family residence overseas, we are sure Quartermile will be of great interest.”
