Landscaping

Around a third of Quartermile will be green space with hundreds of new oak trees merging the Meadows with the city.

Echoing the old garden squares of Edinburgh's New Town, the quarter will provide almost seven acres of green landscaping, three times the area of St Andrew Square.

"We are creating three or four major city, public spaces within Quartermile," explains Pol MacDonald of Edinburgh-based landscape architects EDAW. "We will be influenced by the Meadows and its lawns but we are trying to create a cohesive quarter, to make sure people know it's Quartermile. So it will have an identity all of its own."

Paving, walls and seating will be the highest quality, lighting will be provided by bespoke installations, and hundreds of new trees will be planted. All of this will dramatically improve the sustainability and quality of the landscape. "We want people to pass through on the way to work or the way home," says MacDonald, "to pick up groceries or have a drink as they do so. We want everyone to discover and enjoy Quartermile."

Estate Management

Quartermile's occupants, whether residential or commercial, will enjoy estate management services designed to make their lives easier and more pleasurable.

Experienced, professional staff will be on hand, at a manned, central desk, helping residents take advantage of the extensive facilities at Quartermile.

This team will be responsible for maintaining Quartermile in prime condition, tending trees, plants and lawns, caring for the buildings including lift maintenance, window cleaning and management of the underground car parks.
