MasterplanSince the former Royal Infirmary was founded in 1740, it has attracted some of Scotland's pre- eminent architects including William Adam, Sidney Mitchell and David Bryce. Today, Foster & Partners' masterplan for the re-developed site ensures that the finest of these buildings are restored to their former glory and enhanced by sensitively integrating them with contemporary architecture. Grant Brooker, a senior partner at Masterplanners Foster and Partners, says: "Our aim is to open up the whole site so that it becomes a part of the city again." Residential buildings are placed to the greener edges of the site with the busier commercial and retail activities concentrated in the centre. The masterplan provides:
