Quartermile in Edinburgh has been announced as the winner of the Regeneration prize at the RICS Scotland (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in Scotland) Awards 2008.
Quartermile, developed by Gladedale Capital, is the £450m redevelopment of the former Edinburgh Royal Infirmary site and one of the UK's largest regeneration projects. When complete, Quartermile will be home to over 900 apartments, over 30,000 sq m of new office accommodation and over 10,000 sq m of retail and leisure space.
Winners of the RICS Scotland awards, which have been running for over 15 years, will be automatically entered into the RICS global award finals. Here, the Scottish winners will face tough competition in the shape of entries from Hong Kong, South Africa and countries from all over Europe. The winner of each category will be announced at a ceremony in London in October 2008.
Colin MacPherson, Development Director, Gladedale Capital, said: “This RICS award helps reinforce the growing reputation of Quartermile as a new residential and business district within the city centre.
“The success of this regeneration project is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the whole team.”
RICS Scotland director, Graeme Hartley, said: “These awards recognise the best of the built environment, and the judges were particularly impressed by the scale of the Quartermile project and its integration into the urban fabric of the area.”
